John Scott

John Scott is a certified Dry Stone Waller and licensed Red Seal Stonemason with 30 years of experience in historic conservation. John began as an apprentice with Public Works and Government Services Canada’s Heritage Masonry Team assigned to Canada’s parliament buildings in Ottawa and has since worked across North America on our most cherished buildings and monuments.

John was selected to lead the Algonquin College Heritage Masonry Program in Perth, Ontario and, as Coordinating Professor, worked with industry and government committees to reshape the program to ensure future generations of skilled Canadian conservation masons. Ever fascinated with the variation and nuances of dry stone walls, John has travelled extensively to meet and learn from wallers around the world, to better understand how these traditions and styles emigrated to Canada.

John earned a Level 2 certificate in Yorkshire, UK and is a certified Dry Stone Walling Trainer with the Dry Stone Walling Association of Canada. John has led restoration projects for municipalities, churches and university campuses, including provincially and federally designated historic sites. John holds a diploma in Heritage Masonry and a joint degree in Business Administration and Heritage Conservation.
