I developed an interest in dry stone construction after joining John Shaw Rimmington and Margot Miller on their “Walking the Walls” tour to England’s Lake District, Balmoral Estate in Scotland, and Inis Oírr, Ireland. Seeing stone used for a range of purposes demonstrated the value of this practical and sustainable traditional craft in places where trees are scarce and stone is abundant.
After more than ten years attending workshops in Canada and abroad, and lots of hands-on practice alongside some remarkable individuals, I attained my Level 2 certification. When a wall needs repair, it is an honour to restore an intrinsic piece of local history to its former condition.
I joined the Co-op to assist deliver its mandate and also for the opportunity to participate in large scale heritage projects in regions across the country.
